Overweight – Moderate and massive obesity
Obesity has become a global epidemic. It is defined by an abnormal or excessive accumulation of body fat that can harm health. It increasingly affects young people. Women are more affected than men because normal fat mass is lower in men (10 to 15% of body weight compared to 20 to 25% in women)
It is the 5th risk factor for death worldwide, complications are frequent, the most serious are cardiovascular and respiratory (high blood pressure, heart failure or strokes), effects on the production of sex hormones (disruption of the ovarian cycle, hypogonadism).
Obesity kills three times more than hunger in the world.
Overweight corresponds to an accumulation of fat in adipose tissue, often caused by a diet that is too high in calories, rich in carbohydrates and fats, associated with a lack of physical exercise. Abdominal fat is the most harmful.
